Grey boards don't always mean a dead deck

Brisbane sun, rain and repeated wet-dry cycles gradually wear away deck coatings and weather the exposed timber. A deck may look grey, rough or patchy even when the boards below are still suitable for restoration.

We inspect the timber and fixings, explain what can be restored, include suitable repairs in the written quote and refinish the prepared deck.

Inspection

We check board condition, existing coating, fixings and access — and separate surface problems from structural ones before any sanding begins.

Preparation & repairs

Loose fixings, damaged boards and repair items are handled as listed in the scope. Board replacement appearance is discussed before work begins.

Deck sanding

Weathered coating and surface timber removed with equipment suited to your deck — edges, stairs, posts and detail areas prepared separately.

Oiling or refinishing

The agreed exterior coating goes on the prepared timber, with drying, foot-traffic and maintenance instructions for the selected product.

Deck repairs & board replacement

Repair work is scoped from the deck condition — replacing unsuitable boards, securing loose boards, addressing raised fixings or preparing isolated damaged areas before refinishing. Matching old, weathered timber isn't always exact; the written quote records the repair approach and any limits visible at assessment.

Deck oiling & maintenance

Exposure varies deck to deck — a covered deck and an uncovered north-facing one won't weather at the same rate. Watch for lost colour, reduced water beading, rough fibres or local wear; an early maintenance coat needs less preparation than a failed coating. Straight answers on deck restoration

Can a grey deck be restored?

Often, if the boards and structure are sound. The inspection determines whether the weathering can be prepared and refinished or whether repairs are required first.

Can you sand a deck with raised screws or nails?

The Blitz wire-brush machine can work around many raised screws and dome-headed nails that are difficult for conventional sanding equipment. Unsafe or loose fixings still need to be addressed as part of preparation.

Should a deck be sanded or only recoated?

That depends on the condition and compatibility of the existing coating. A suitable maintained surface may need lighter preparation, while failed or heavily weathered coating may require more extensive sanding.

How long does deck restoration take?

Timing depends on deck size, access, repairs, weather and the coating system. The quote sets out the expected sequence, and coating instructions determine when the deck can be used again.

How often should a deck be maintained?

There is no single interval for every deck. Exposure, timber, coating, drainage and use all affect wear. Inspect the surface regularly and arrange maintenance when water beading, colour or coating protection begins to decline.
